Church History
The Methodist Church of Trumbull was established
in 1830 with a petition to the Justice of the Peace to be organized as "The
Methodist Episcopal Society of Trumbull." The first congregation met
at the corner of Daniels Farm Road and Whitney Avenue for 27 years.
The Reverend Henry Morgan of Easton, along with members of this first
congregation, established what became today's Long Hill United Methodist
Church.
The cornerstone for a building located at the
corner of Main Street and Lake Avenue was laid on May 20, 1857. The
church bought the land for its present location in 1890, and in 1917,
construction began on the sanctuary. Bradley Hall was added as a
recreational facility in 1950, and the Education Building was built in 1961.
The year 1980 marked the 150th anniversary of
the Long Hill United Methodist Congregation. In 2002, the church began
renovation of the sanctuary and narthex, with construction completed in
March 2003 (see our photos on the worship page).
